....into the hands of an Attorney General who worships executive power.
What’s more, Mueller may have filled his report with so much classified material and “privileged” grand jury information that AG Barr has an excuse to suppress nearly all of it. In short, Americans who have been waiting breathlessly for an objective analysis of behavior that justifiably raised suspicions have been left in limbo.
The President, characteristically, has rejected the high road of expressing his appreciation for a report which (evidently) neither indicts nor fully “exonerates” him. Instead, ignoring his daughter’s and Jared Kushner’s improper use of Instagram and private phones to conduct executive office business, he’s ready to seek a special investigation into the Hillary Clinton’s email mess.
Anybody who ever criticized Donald Trump, beware! We are “traitors,” and he is coming after us, because he is untouchable. Or so he thinks.
So confident is Trump that he’s calling for a release of the entire Mueller report. Why not, since he has reason to assume that Barr will suppress the damning sections?
So confident is he of his invincible status that he’s now calling for a full repeal of the Affordable Care Act, the issue that did more than any other to saddle him with a Democratic Congress.
At this point, I am reminded of the line in T.S. Eliot’s play “Murder in the Cathedral”: “Will no one rid me of this troublesome priest?” Or words to that effect.
No, I am not calling for assassination. I am saying that the 2020 election is critical and that Democrats need to put “Wrecking Ball” Trump’s defeat at the top of the agenda. Oddly enough, our Chief Egomaniac may have given them the winning issue: affordable health care for all.
In that case, by kicking the can down the road, Robert Mueller has done the right thing. The best way to terminate the disastrous Trump presidency always has been a resounding defeat at the polls.
Re apologies, none needed. Most of us think that the President is not above the law. On second thought, it might be nice for Trump to apologize to all the people whom he has gratuitously smeared.
Finally, let’s take effective action on the strangely overlooked, non-controversial part of the Mueller report. Let’s unite behind the sections that provide clear evidence of Russian meddling. Has everything been done that needs to be done to protect the 2020 election from foreign interference? If not, why not? There’s still time to plug software security holes, buy voting machines that leave a paper trail and force Facebook, Twitter and other social media to do the right thing.
Late Bulletin!!!! The President gets to see and edit the report first? The subject of the investigation gets to determine what American citizens get to see? Not a confidence-building measure.
