I have some photos in the camera, but I don't have time to upload and critique them just now, so you will have to be content with some links and some crabby commentary. (Well, not all crabby!)
I'm finding the back and forth between Obama and Clinton quite sickening. I understand that they called a truce last night, but I'm not expecting much from it. Bob Herbert's column this morning inspired the thought that maybe they could actually have a discussion about the deleterious things that happen in our society to people who are of the "wrong" race or gender. Hillary Clinton could acknowledge that sex is used against women. Not against her; leave that out of it. But talk about a specific example of a woman who hasn't been promoted, probably a manager at Wal-Mart rather than a would-be partner at a New York law firm, or maybe even say that the efflorescence of pornography on the web doesn't seem to be doing anyone but the pornographers any good.
Obama could say that young black men are in jail in outrageous numbers and perhaps extend that to the overjailing of America generally. He might bring together some of the civil-rights leaders that this fight has put on opposing sides.
Or both could talk about their approaches to the issues.
Yes, there are enough people in the United States who would try to drag it all down to identity politics. But the candidates would rise above it. Even David Brooks is trying to in that column.
But it looks like they'll just rein in their operatives and try to damp it down for a while.
Whoops! Time's up! More later.
