I've been wondering about my roadrunner. I was lucky enough to win the local Wild Birds Unlimited photo contest with this shot (not posted earlier). I picked up my binoculars this morning, came home, unloaded the car and then took the garbage out.
There was the roadrunner, across the street, running from my neighbor's driveway to the empty lot next door!
The other day I heard some cooing, and I thought a distant response, mostly coming from the east side of my house, which is pretty private for roadrunner nesting, although I do go through there occasionally, looking for flowers and whatever else I might find. The empty lot draws hikers, so I'm not sure that's better.
But I'm sure my lizards appreciate not being a larder for a roadrunner family.
Update (early evening): I went out to the kitchen to get supper, and there she was, on the deck railing, preening!
She let me take quite a few photos, but then, as usual, I had to try to get closer, and she does have her limits.
Do you think she's looking for her share of the prize? I put out the very last of the suet from the freezer, which I'd been intending to throw away, and a strawberry. And I'll stay in this part of the house until it gets dark.
