We sometimes receive e-mails from people asking to write guest posts for WhirledView.
At present we do not carry advertorials or advertisements. Should we decide to do so, we will make an announcement and post our rates.
What do we look for? Well written and organized commentary style pieces with beginning, middle and ends – normally about a current issue or event - that range from 800 – 1500 words in length. We also include off-the-beaten track travel/photo posts on weekends. We hold our guest contributors to the same high journalistic standards we set for ourselves. As a consequence, we look for guest contributors with expertise or special knowledge about the topic or topics they address. They normally express strongly held opinions and support their views with facts. Prior guest contributors’ posts can be found under the Guest Contributors link in the left hand column.
We are only interested in original posts: ones that have not been previously posted elsewhere. Links normally take the place of footnotes. We reserve the right to edit for clarity and style – but return the edited version to the contributor for his or her approval before posting.
WhirledView is not a photo blog but photos or short videos illustrating a story are welcomed. If a contributor chooses to use photos, we need the following information: name of photographer, date of photograph, location of photograph as well as a jpeg copy of the photo or photos. Just as we do not use reprints of articles posted elsewhere, we also do not use copyrighted photos.
We have no control over where a story may appear after posting. WhirledView posts are cataloged on Google, Yahoo and other search engines. They are occasionally picked up by other blogs or referenced in online and print publications. We encourage guest contributors to share their guest posts with friends and colleagues – through Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In, e-mail listservs and other forms of social media to expand their reach.
We appreciate thoughtful comments from readers and forward them to guest contributors prior to their posting. We have a spam filter and use it. We will not post or forward spam.
WhirledView is a self-financed blog run on a shoestring budget and does not pay contributors.
If writing a guest post for WhirledView tempts you, please send us an e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org) to let us know, include a short resume and the draft of your proposed post.
