Something to Make You Smile

posted by CKR

The language is Ingrian, the location Estonia. Ingrian is one of a group of Finno-Ugrian languages nearly extinct. Veljo Tormis has collected and arranged many folk songs from that group of languages.

Update (10 am): And even more so! The roadrunner is back, sunning in her usual place! I hope I didn't scare her...

I assume you saw that strange churning song over at my place a few weeks back? That was also a Tormis arrangement.

You might possibly like Vladimir Martynov...especially Night in Galicia.

Glad to see the roadrunner's back. We're overrun with juncos, towhees, and golden-crowned kinglets right now. Not as exotic, but still nice!

Galizia, that is....

No I didn’t. My bad. I almost posted another one that may be the same one you posted: Käsikivimäng, which, as I translate it, is hand-rock game. And I think in Estonian.

Not speaking Estonian, I just assumed it had something to do with churning!

An odd, haunting performance, in any case.
